A GOP congressman is stepping down from the House of Representatives after learning there are complications with his wife's pregnancy. Sean Duffy, who was elected to his fifth term in Wisconsin's solidly Republican 7th district last year, announced on Facebook Monday that the little girl he's expecting with wife Rachel Campos-Duffy in October—their ninth child, per the Washington Examiner—"will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications, including a heart condition." Duffy explained that he already found it difficult to be away from home for work four days at a time, and that he's "always been open to signs from God when it comes to balancing my desire to serve both my family and my country."
"With much prayer, I have decided that this is the right time for me to take a break from public service in order to be the support my wife, baby and family need right now," he writes. "It is not an easy decision—because I truly love being your Congressman—but it is the right decision for my family, which is my first love and responsibility." He'll officially resign Sept. 23. The Hill notes that Duffy was elected during 2010's "Tea Party wave." He's the 13th House Republican sworn in for this session who will not return in 2021, per the Washington Post. Duffy appeared on MTV's Real World reality show in 1997, and met Campos-Duffy—who appeared on the show's 1994 season—during a taping of the Real World/Road Rules challenge in 1998.
