Amnesty International Issues US Travel Warning

The US is now among the countries covered by an Amnesty International travel warning. The international human rights organization issued the warning Wednesday, tweeting that visitors to the United States should "exercise extreme caution & have a contingency plan when travelling throughout the country" because of ongoing "rampant gun violence," ABC reports.

The organization called gun violence "a human rights crisis" and accused the US government of failing to meet its obligation to ensure people can "live and move about freely without the threat of gun violence." After the massacres in El Paso and Dayton over the weekend, Uruguay and Venezuela warned their citizens about traveling to the US. Countries including Germany, Ireland, and Canada have also issued warnings in recent years, the Washington Post reports. (More Amnesty International stories.)
