A Belgian man sat on the toilet for five straight days last week. No, he's not ill; he was attempting to set a world record. Jimmy De Frenne, 48, was aiming to stay on the toilet for 165 hours but only made it to 116, Reuters reports. The toilet was set up for the occasion at Filip’s Place bar in Ostend, so his friends and family could come by and visit him during his attempt; oddly enough, he couldn't actually use the toilet in question as it was not hooked up to the plumbing, so he had to take breaks when nature called. He was allowed five minutes off per hour, and was also allowed to accumulate that time in order to build up enough time to take a nap. He ate his meals on the toilet, Newsweek reports.
There is reportedly no current official world record for longest time sitting on a toilet, but De Frenne says he heard of someone doing it for 100 hours. Guinness World Records is working to validate De Frenne's attempt, according to him; no officials would comment on the story. "I was very tired and my legs hurt but I believe in my success and try to make this record official," De Frenne says. (A serial toilet clogger was recently sentenced.)
