A North Carolina mom is calling it a "miracle" after technology helped her find her missing daughter—who was trapped in a 25-foot ditch with serious injuries, the Charlotte Observer reports. Catrina Cramer Alexander says she got worried on June 7 when her 17-year-old daughter, Macy Smith, missed curfew and didn't answer texts or calls. "The lack of response was out of character for her," Alexander tells WFMY. Good thing Alexander didn't know the truth: Smith had been in a terrifying car wreck, hydroplaning that afternoon in Mount Airy and plummeting down an embankment. The crash "flipped my car 3 times, and [I] landed in my back seat with my arm pinned in between the car and the ground," Smith later wrote on Facebook.
"I searched for my phone to call for help but the only thing in sight was my bible," she adds, so she held onto it and prayed for hours. Meanwhile, her mom tried tracking Smith with the Find My Friends app on which the two had agreed to share their locations. It took hours, but Alexander eventually followed the GPS on her phone to her daughter's tire tracks on Pilot Mountain. "I will never forget the sound of my family calling out my name when they found me around 10:30pm," says Smith, who was whisked off to a hospital and diagnosed with nerve damage and a fractured neck. Now surgery has relieved the swelling and she has finger movement in her damaged arm, per CTV News. "It's just truly a miracle and I give it all to God," she says. (More uplifting news stories.)
