Here's What Meghan Markle's Estranged Dad Has to Say About Royal Baby

Things are not good between Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and her estranged father, but that didn't stop Thomas Markle from talking to a British tabloid about the birth of his new grandson. Thomas Markle told the Sun he hopes the baby born to Meghan and her husband Prince Harry will "serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity and honor." He added that he's "delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well," and offered his "congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry." • In keeping with longstanding traditions, a formal baby announcement was posted at Buckingham Palace saying Queen Elizabeth II welcomed the birth of her eighth great-grandchild, the AP reports.

• The royal family put out a statement on Twitter: "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news. The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage.

• That statement includes the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, aka Harry's brother Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton. Fox News reminds readers that Harry and William have reportedly been experiencing a rift in their relationship of late.
• Congratulatory messages have poured in from Justin Welby, the archbishop of Canterbury, Harry's uncle, Prince Andrew, and opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn. British Prime Minister Theresa May tweeted, "Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the arrival of their baby boy. Wishing you all the best at this happy time."
• Vanity Fair reports that Meghan had announced last month she would not be doing an immediate postpartum photo op the way Kate Middleton has with her children. It's not clear when photos of the new baby will be released or when his name will be announced.
• As CNN explains, Baby Sussex won't be a prince because he's too far down the line of succession, unless Queen Elizabeth overrules a 1917 decree from King George V limiting the use of such titles.
• The news site also explains that he will automatically be a British citizen, and his parents can report his birth to an American consulate to get him dual US citizenship. He's eligible because, CNN explains, "he was born in wedlock abroad to an American citizen who has lived in the US for a period of five years, at least two of which were after the age of 14."
