Trump Takes Flak From Usually Supportive Outlets

President Trump has lost the support of one prominent figure on the right in Ann Coulter. Now Axios notes that he's getting some pushback from two other usually supportive voices: Lou Dobbs and Matt Drudge. On his Fox show Wednesday, Dobbs said he feared that the White House has "lost its way," reports the Hill. Dobbs specifically criticized Trump's comments during a meeting with his American Workforce Policy Advisory Board about hoping for an increase in the number of legal immigrants coming into the US. “That Mr. Trump would advance the interest of the globalist elites ahead of our citizens would be a tragic reversal on any day,” Dobbs said. (See the video.) “But today, on the same day the Commerce Department reported the United States had the largest trade deficit in our history ... it all means the White House has simply lost its way.”

At the same time, Drudge has been prominently linking to a critical story in the Washington Post about the Trump administration. The Drudge Report headline on the story is "Swamped," and the story itself asserts that "Trump is losing ground on top priorities to curb illegal immigration, cut the trade deficit and blunt North Korea’s nuclear threat—setbacks that complicate his planned reelection message as a can-do president who is making historic progress." The Trump meeting on Wednesday, meanwhile, has been generating attention for a less serious reason: The president misspoke when referring to Apple CEO Tim Cook, saying, "We appreciate it very much, Tim Apple," per the Verge.
