(Getty Images/carlballou) The Houston Police Department confirms at least five of its officers were shot Monday afternoon in the southeastern part of the city "following an encounter with a suspect," per USA Today. The officers were all transported to Memorial Hermann Medical Center, with police Chief Art Acevedo putting out a call for everyone to "please pray" for the wounded. KTRK reports the officers were delivering a narcotics warrant. A law enforcement source tells the Houston Chronicle that one of the officers was shot in the face. Further details are still murky: KHOU earlier reported one suspect is dead and two are still holed up in the house where the warrant was being served, while an updated KTRK report said two suspects were reported to be dead, with a possible third suspect still at large. "This evening's horrific attack on police officers is a solemn reminder of the service and sacrifice our brave men and women in law enforcement make every day to keep us safe," said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in a statement. This is a developing story. Read These Next South Africa's weekend arrived with a grim start. Bodies found at lifetime felon's former home.
