Kevin Frei tossed a little kangaroo meat into his pot of chili—harmlessly, he thought. You're reading about the lunch he was making on Oct. 10 because it was for the junior and senior high school students at Nebraska's Potter-Dix Public Schools, reports WUSA9, and Frei has since lost his job as head cook for the district. "On behalf of Potter-Dix Public Schools, I apologize for the anxiety and any harm that this has caused individual students and/or families. We will make sure that something like this never occurs again," wrote District Superintendent Mike Williams, who said that Frei told him he was motivated by the nutritional value and leanness of kangaroo meat. The meat apparently also met government standards, but officials deemed eating exotic meat a decision to be made by parents, and Frei is out of a job. (More kangaroo stories.)
