Rumors are buzzing that NBC wants to reboot The Office, but the show's big star doesn't think it's such a great idea. In an interview with Esquire, Steve Carell notes that the original show is enjoying a resurgence of sorts thanks to its presence on Netflix, which is in turn fueling interest in a reboot. "But apart from the fact that I just don’t think that’s a good idea, it might be impossible to do that show today and have people accept it the way it was accepted 10 years ago," says Carell. "The climate's different."
His own Michael Scott character, for example, was forever saying or doing inappropriate things—in fact, the entire character was based on that premise. "But I just don’t know how that would fly now," says Carell. "There's a very high awareness of offensive things today—which is good, for sure. But at the same time, when you take a character like that too literally, it doesn't really work." Click to read the full interview.
