The former Russian spy targeted in a nerve agent poisoning has finally left a UK hospital. Sergei Skripal, 66, was discharged from Salisbury District Hospital more than two months after he and his daughter, Yulia, were found slumped on a park bench on March 4. "This is an important stage in his recovery, which will now take place away from the hospital," its director of nursing tells the BBC. Yulia, 33, was discharged in April.
The hospital notes treatment involved "keeping them alive until their bodies could produce more enzymes to replace those that had been poisoned," per the Guardian. The New York Times earlier this week reported the attack came after sources say Skripal met and shared information on Russia with Czech and Estonian spies, possibly with approval from British authorities. (The nerve agent used in the poisoning was liquid.)
