Stocks are closing solidly higher as the market adds to its big gains from earlier in the week, the AP reports. Technology companies and banks contributed the most to the gains Thursday. Microsoft added 1.9% and JPMorgan Chase rose 2.5%. Delta Air Lines jumped 2.9% and BlackRock rose 1.5% after each reported strong results in the latest quarter. Bed, Bath & Beyond plunged 20% after giving a weak forecast for its fiscal year. The S&P 500 rose 21 points, or 0.8%, to 2,663. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 293 points, or 1.2%, to 24,483.
