Sen. Bob Corker announced Tuesday he will retire at the end of his term in 2018 after 12 years in the US Senate, CNN reports. The Tennessee Republican and head of the Senate foreign relations committee says he made the decision "after much thought, consideration, and family discussion over the past year." Corker, 65, had been increasingly outspoken against President Trump in recent weeks. "The president has not yet been able to demonstrate the stability nor some of the competence that he needs to demonstrate in order to be successful," Corker said last month.

One name already being floated to replace Corker: Peyton Manning. The Tennessean reports the retired quarterback was spotted golfing with Trump and Corker earlier this year, and politics Twitter is currently ablaze with speculation. “Everybody likes Peyton Manning, including me," Tennessee's Sen. Lamar Alexander said earlier this year. (More Bob Corker stories.)
