Pence: Comey's Firing Had Nothing to Do With Russia

Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday that President Trump's firing of James Comey had nothing to do with the fact that the former FBI director was in charge of the bureau's investigation into whether Trump's campaign team colluded with Russia to interfere with the 2016 US presidential election, CNN reports. "As has been stated repeatedly and the president has been told, he's not under investigation," Pence said in response to a question from NBC News' Kristen Welker. "There is no evidence of collusion between our campaign and any Russian officials." He didn't elaborate on the actual reasons for Comey's firing, but did say Trump was simply looking out for "the best interest of the American people," the Hill reports.
