International Women's Day means global protests, "defiant" statues, and examining which countries are the best ones to work in if you're female. The Economist looks at the latter via its "glass ceiling index," which merges data on higher education, child care expenses, and salary, among other factors, to see which nations are tops in workforce gender equality. The Nordic region is apparently the place to get your working papers, while the United States doesn't even crack the top 10, coming in at No. 20. Heading the list:
- Iceland
- Sweden
- Norway
- Finland
- Poland
- France
- Denmark
- Belgium
