After 15 months gestation, giraffes are born hooves first, weighing about 150 pounds. And the internet is really, really ready for April's baby to be born. Harpursville, New York's Animal Adventure Park's giraffe live stream has picked up steam on YouTube—minus a brief incident in which it was removed over complaints about sexually explicit content—since it went live Thursday. April was due mid-month with her fourth calf, but still no sign of baby, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
As of this writing, about 85,000 people are watching the stream, though NBC New York reports some 30 million have tuned in at some point. The window they'll have to catch the birth may not a big one: Patch.com reports the zoo won't declare "active labor" until it can see the hooves (the latest report on its Facebook page noted "continued movement of baby inside, and big baby kicks, are noticeably obvious"), and that last stage of labor can be just 30 minutes long.
