Recent incidents of anti-Semitism—including a wave of threats against Jewish community centers—are "horrible" and a "reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil," President Trump said Tuesday, echoing comments made by his daughter Ivanka a day earlier, reports Politico. Anti-Semitism "has to stop," Trump added, per NBC News. His comments, following a visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, came after Trump was asked about the fight against anti-Semitism by a reporter from an Orthodox Jewish publication last week. In his response, Trump said the queston was unfair, told the reporter to "sit down," and called himself the "least anti-Semitic person that you've ever seen," per CNN.
In a tweet earlier Tuesday, Hillary Clinton called on Trump to speak out against "JCC threats, cemetery desecration & online attacks." Paul Ryan likewise denounced anti-Semitism Tuesday, noting "any form is abhorrent, and I encourage authorities nationwide to take these threats seriously." The chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League praised Trump's comments in a tweet. "Glad @POTUS stated #antisemitism is horrible. Now need @whitehouse to share plans on how to 'stop' it. ADL ready to help," wrote Jonathan Greenblatt. But the executive director of the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect was unmoved.
