The AP is reporting violent clashes between protesters and police in downtown Washington DC, blocks from the Trump inauguration parade route. NPR reports that protesters have used hammers to break windows and police are using pepper spray and "an unidentified concussive device." More than 95 people have been arrested so far, the Washington Post reports, but DC's interim police chief has downplayed the situation a bit, saying "maybe a couple of hundred" protesters were causing problems. "In the grand scheme of things, this is a small disturbance in a small part of the city," he says. "Literally, we have thousands of others who are peacefully demonstrating."
