Sports | MLB Lee Homer Lifts Cubbies Over Astros Zambrano solid on the mound; Soriano hits first long-ball of year By Mike Buss Posted Apr 6, 2008 7:55 PM CDT Copied Chicago Cubs closer Kerry Wood, right, celebrates with catcher Henry Blanco after the Cubs beat the Houston Astros 3-2 in a National League a baseball game on Sunday, April 6, 2008, in Chicago. (AP Photo/Nam Y. Huh) Derrek Lee found his power stroke quickly this year. Lee hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh, Carlos Zambrano struck out seven in seven innings and the Chicago Cubs beat the Houston Astros 3-2 Sunday. Lee connected against Oscar Villarreal (0-2) for his third big fly already this season after not hitting his first homer last season until the 21st game. The Astros had tied it when Miguel Tejada hit his first homer with Houston leading off the seventh. Slumping Alfonso Soriano homered and made a great throw for the Cubs, and Zambrano avoided the cramping that forced him out of the opener. He allowed two runs and seven hits with no walks. Kerry Wood pitched a perfect ninth for his third save. Read These Next Saudi tells Iran to wise up, 'stop attacking their neighbors.'
