"CBS perpetrated a fraud upon the public," the defamation lawsuit states, accusing CBS of failing to do its own new investigation and instead relying on a fictional "preconceived storyline" from the self-published 2012 book Foreign Faction by James Kolar. The CBS special ultimately pointed the finger at Burke as JonBenet's killer, and the suit, which requests $250 million in compensatory damages and $500 million in punitive damages, accuses the network of ignoring a significant amount of evidence exonerating him and the rest of his family.
