Conde Nast Traveler has released its annual Readers' Choice Awards, and more than 100,000 votes came in for the best cities in the nation. The magazine broke candidates down into larger and smaller cities (larger meaning those with 150,000 or more people), and ascending to the No. 1 spot like King Kong climbing the Empire State Building: New York, which "buzzes with the energy of a city … perpetually caffeinated—its people moving, creating, making the most of every block." The top 10:
- New York
- Chicago
- San Francisco
- Honolulu
- New Orleans
- Boston
- Portland, Ore.
- Naples, Fla.
- Seattle
- San Diego
