It wasn't just controversial photos that led to Qandeel Baloch's murder. The mother of "Pakistan's Kim Kardashian" claims her son killed her 26-year-old daughter only after he was taunted by friends. "They would infuriate him and tell him she is bringing you dishonor," she tells AFP. Authorities say Muhammad Waseem drugged Baloch before strangling her on July 15, while a cousin, Haq Nawaz, held her hands, per Pakistan Today. Baloch's sister, arrested Wednesday, is accused of being in on the plan based on cellphone data. Baloch's mother now says she doesn't know how the family will survive, since Baloch supported a dozen family members and paid for their three-room house in Multan. "I shall not forgive," Baloch's father, Muhammad Azeem, tells CNN. "It is my desire to take revenge."
Family members typically choose the punishment for a person guilty of an "honor killing" and Azeem—who says he was proud of his daughter—wants his son "shot on sight," per the Independent. In this case, however, the state has named itself as a complainant against Waseem, meaning it will have the final decision. The government has promised to change the law so that family members can't pardon killers in the future, per the Times of India, but Azeem still fears his son will walk free. "There should be God's wrath on him," he says. "The culprits should be arrested and punished." Waseem, meanwhile, says he's "proud" of what he did. "Girls are born to stay at home and follow traditions," he says. "Now everybody will remember me with honor." (Click for more on the case.)
