Alexander Semin got Washington through regulation and Tomas Fleischmann won it for them in overtime, reports the AP. The victory puts the Caps just two points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Elsewhere in the NHL: Florida’s playoff hopes dimmed as the Panthers lost 3-2 to Atlanta. Mark Recchi scored the game-winner for the Thrashers, who ended a five-game losing streak The Sabres edged the Senators in a shootout, 4-3.
