A New Hampshire paper regretted its GOP endorsement, but a newspaper in Florida isn't giving itself that chance. The editorial board for the South Florida Sun Sentinel is refusing to endorse any GOP candidate in the March 15 state primary because "the kind of person who should be running is not in the race," per Politico. The board, which previously backed Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton on the Democratic side, notes "John Kasich is the best of the bunch," but has no chance of winning. Donald Trump does have a chance of winning but "lacks the experience and temperament to be president." And "given his smug, erratic, often petulant demeanor, do you really trust him with the keys to our nuclear arsenal?" That leaves Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.
Cruz "has alienated almost everyone he's worked with," "promises to carpet-[bomb] Syrian villages," and "will make his decisions based on the Bible," the board notes. "Cruz scares us. He also should scare Republicans who want to win in November." The Sun Sentinel isn't any more partial to hometown Sen. Marco Rubio. He "has almost no experience and has done little but run for office," the board notes. He has also "failed to do his job as a senator, broken the promises he made to Floridians, and backed away from his lone signature piece of legislation on immigration." "It's unusual for us to not endorse," the paper's editorial page editor notes in an accompanying video. "But given what the GOP campaign has devolved into," the choice is clear: "None of the above."
