Ben Carson's New Hampshire primary evening started a lot like his Iowa caucuses one: with chatter about his travel plans. This time, picking up fresh clothes apparently isn't involved, but Politico reports by way of his campaign that the GOP candidate decamped the state in the afternoon. He opted to skip his primary night event instead and headed to South Carolina, which votes in 11 days. CBS News reports his campaign offered some boilerplate ("after several stops meeting with New Hampshire voters ... Dr. Carson will be en route to South Carolina to continue his campaign for faith, integrity, and common sense leadership") but also it pointed out how "sad" it is that the media cares so much about the "minutia of his schedule."
Politico notes that Ted Cruz's campaign again jumped on the news, which it read as a signal that the end was nigh and spun into calls for Carson's New Hampshire supporters to instead vote for Cruz. They have since offered an apology. CNN notes that Cruz won't actually be making a beeline to South Carolina, and neither will Marco Rubio. They'll stop in Washington, DC, on their way south so they can be present for a Senate vote on North Korea sanctions. (More Ben Carson 2016 stories.)
