Charges: Psychic Cons $200K From Lacoste Heir
Becky Ann Lee   (Boulder Police Department)

A professional psychic is accused of conning more than $200,000 out of a wealthy University of Colorado student, the Longmont Times-Call reports. Victoria Lacoste—of the Lacoste clothing family—started getting tarot card readings and spiritual advice from 32-year-old Becky Ann Lee, owner of Psychic Chakra Spa in Boulder, last year. In the months that followed, Lee allegedly convinced Lacoste to give her hundreds of thousands of dollars. Authorities say Lee told Lacoste "evil spirits" would attack her if they didn't "continue their work."

Lee allegedly used much of the money to buy gold coins, which she told Lacoste would be used in their rituals, the Times-Call reports. Authorities say Lee then hocked the coins while ignoring Lacoste's questions about them. She also reportedly had Lacoste buy her gift cards, which she would use to buy items then return them for cash. Lacoste directly transferred funds into Lee's bank account, as well. The psychic has been charged with felony theft. "If you go to someone to read your palm or tarot cards, that's not illegal," the district attorney tells the Times-Call. "If they start manipulating the relationship to mislead or take advantage, then it can lead to criminal charges." (More Colorado stories.)
