Sunday marked the anniversary of Michael Brown's death in Ferguson, and while tensions are still running high, another night of protests last night saw no reported injuries, gunshots, looting, or property damage, a county police spokesman tells the AP. However, about two dozen people were arrested during a protest on West Florissant Avenue when officers in riot gear tried to move people out of a traffic lane. Just past 10:30pm, the St. Louis County PD tweeted that rocks and bottles were being thrown at officers, followed by a tweet that noted, "Unruly crowd is throwing frozen water bottles at officers. Those who choose to act violently will be arrested." A series of subsequent tweets indicated verbal commands had been given to disperse and that those not complying with officers' direction would be arrested.
By 1am or so, most of the crowd had filtered off, and an hour later the streets were nearly empty, the Wall Street Journal reports. Earlier in the evening, about 60 protesters were arrested after blocking rush-hour traffic on Interstate 70 in Earth City, Mo., the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Meanwhile, Brown's father posted a Facebook message last night thanking the residents of Ferguson and Missouri "for showing up and making the events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday meaningful, inspiring and successful," adding that "our marches were all done very peacefully. So please be careful, mindful and protect yourselves from those who would like to see this be unsuccessful." (An 18-year-old who was shot by Ferguson police Sunday night after they say he opened fire on them has been charged with assault.)
