Four people, including two children, are dead outside Atlanta in an apparent murder-suicide. Police in Forsyth County say Matthew Fields, 32, fatally shot his wife and her two sons before killing himself, reports MyFox Atlanta. The victims are Rebecca Manning, 37, and Jared and Jacob Smith, ages 8 and 9. Fields also shot his father-in-law, 75-year-old Jerry Manning, who is in critical condition. After shooting his four victims, police say Fields called his mother to tell her what he'd done and to say he was about to kill himself, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She tried to talk him out of it and began driving to the home, but it was too late.
“As the investigation goes on, of course, we hope to find some type of motive,” says Forsyth Sheriff Duane Piper. “There’s no reason that any of us are ever going to understand to wipe out an entire family. We have absolutely no clue at this moment what precipitated it.” (More Georgia stories.)
