The stabbing death of a Missouri mom is looking like a sordid tale right out of the Louisiana bayous. Police arrested Gypsy Blanchard, 23, and her boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, 26, on Monday for the first-degree murder of Gypsy's mom, 48-year-old Clauddinnea "Dee Dee" Blanchard—who was slain in her home last week, NBC News reports. "It's a shocker, for sure," says Dee Dee's nephew, Bobby Pitre. "But at the same time, I feel like it was just a ticking time bomb." Dee Dee made Gypsy act like she had muscular dystrophy, Pitre says, and put her on seizure pills that caused Gypsy's teeth to fall out. Neighbors thought she was disabled, but "it was basically all a fraud," Pitre tells KSDK. "I was so disgusted with the woman. I could not believe what she was doing."

Dee Dee had homeschooled her daughter in Louisiana until they moved into a Habitat for Humanity residence in Missouri, claiming Hurricane Katrina destroyed their home. Along the way, says Pitre, Dee Dee stopped speaking with family members who confronted her about Gypsy, who tried to run away several times. "Dee Dee would keep her as close as she possibly could," says Pitre. "I don't think she ever wanted her to leave." After Dee Dee's death, friends became alarmed by a Facebook post on an account belonging to Dee Dee and Gypsy: "That b---h is dead!" it reads, CBS News reports. Police arrested Gypsy and Godejohn in Wisconsin, and say Gypsy seemed able-bodied. Godejohn reportedly confessed to the killing and said Gypsy hid in the bathroom while he did it.
