Sox Fan Hit by Bat Expected to Survive

The fan who suffered life-threatening injuries from a broken bat Friday night at a Red Sox game is expected to survive and is now in serious condition, reports the Boston Globe. Tonya Carpenter's family released a statement saying that they're "grateful to all who have reached out with thoughts and prayers but are requesting privacy at this time as Tonya recovers."

A friend tells the AP that Carpenter, her son, and another friend "were just going to the game. It was just, if you get a chance to get tickets, you grab them and you go and sit where the ticket happens to be." Fenway Park held a moment of reflection for Carpenter at yesterday's game; the Globe notes her "screams were audible in the park." "It’s horrible. You don’t want to see anybody get hurt,” David Ortiz said. “We talked about it through the whole game."
