Days of frantic searching have turned up no trace of a Georgia couple in their 60s who vanished after going to buy a classic car from somebody on Craigslist. Bud and June Runion are believed to have traveled more than 150 miles from their home in Marietta to McRae last Thursday to meet somebody who answered Bud's ad seeking a 1966 Ford Mustang, reports WMAZ. Investigators say the phone number from the ad was traced back to a disposable cellphone, and Ronnie Adrian "Jay" Towns, 28, has now been identified as a suspect.
According to arrest warrants, Towns is accused of making false statements to investigators and attempting to commit theft by deception. "We were interested in who last had phone contact with the Runions, and this individual did," a police spokesman says. "We interviewed Mr. Towns early on in the investigation and the info he provided did not corroborate with our investigation." One of the couple's daughters tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that her father, who always taught her to be wary in potentially dangerous situations and would have called long before now if he was OK, had wanted a 1966 Mustang ever since he returned from serving in Vietnam that year.
