People might flock to the Grand Canyon or Notre Dame to experience great beauty—but, as any elementary-schooler can attest, total grossness can also draw a crowd. Fox News lists the most disgusting tourist attractions in the US:
- Seattle's gum wall: It's basically what it sounds like: a wall covered with gum. That's chewed gum, by the way, stuck there by tourists. And if you dig deep enough, legend has it you can find the 20-year-old piece that started it all.
- The world's biggest fungus: In Oregon's Malheur National Forest, you can find a fungal colony that covers 2,200 acres of land. All the Armillaria ostoyae, or honey mushrooms, put together would weigh in around 35,000 tons.
- Leila's Hair Museum: Head to Independence, Missouri, to visit a museum full of art made from hair. Hair art actually has a rich history, having been popular among Victorians. The oldest locks on display are from the 1600s.
- Berkeley Pit: OK, this one, in Butte, Montana, might not actually look that bad. It's a former copper mine where the water is reddish. But you definitely wouldn't want to touch the liquid, which is so full of toxic pollutants that 342 geese died after a flock landed on it in 1995.
