Buckingham Palace has a strong suggestion for reporters who will be covering Prince William and wife Kate's visit to America next month: Don't dress like slobs. Or in the more formal language of the palace: "Smart attire for men includes the wearing of a jacket and tie, and for women a trouser or skirt suit." And, please, no jeans or sneakers. The rules apply to journalists and their "technicians," and slovenly offenders risk being turned away from events. At the Daily Beast, Tom Sykes explains that back home, UK reporters "can get a serious telling-off from the press minders and even be excluded from future events" if they disregard the royal dress code and other forms of etiquette.

He quips, however, that top hats "seem to be entirely optional." In its coverage of the rules, the Daily News points out that America has some, too. For example, male reporters who want to rub shoulders with members of the House in the "Speaker's Lobby" need a jacket and tie, with none other than John Boehner himself known to dispense suggestions to get a haircut.
