Vladimir Putin's daughter may be persona non grata in Holland, and you can imagine why. Maria Putin, 29, hasn't been seen around her posh riverside flat in a town outside of Amsterdam since Malaysia Flight 17 went down in Ukraine, with 193 Dutch people among the victims, the Mirror reports. Angry tweets echoed the sentiment that pro-Russian fighters were behind the disaster: One told Maria that "it's time you leave," while another was glad she lived close to the Hague so she "won't have to go far to see her father's trial." Pieter Broertjes, the town's mayor, even spoke of deporting her.

Broertjes later apologized, saying his remarks "stemmed from a feeling of helplessness that many would recognize." Still, Maria and her boyfriend haven't been around their $3.3 million penthouse "since the plane went down," a resident said. Others tell the Telegraph that they had nothing against her and she barely lived there anyway. One elderly man quipped, "Yes, they live here, and every day we see them on their bicycles going out to the shops." Putin has always kept Maria and her sister, Ekaterina, out of the spotlight but insists they live in Moscow, reports the Mirror. (More Vladimir Putin stories.)
