Big gestures made by friends and strangers highlight this week's list of the most uplifting stories:

  • Bride Paralyzed at Bachelorette Party Will Be a Mom: Rachelle Friedman was paralyzed at her 2010 bachelorette party in a freak accident—but a year later she went through with her postponed wedding, and now she'll get to achieve her dream of being a mom, thanks to an old friend who was following her story from afar.
  • Cop Replaces Elderly Woman's Stolen Ring: A Florida police officer got the call for a particularly heinous crime—someone had ripped the engagement ring off the finger of an 87-year-old woman bedridden with Alzheimer's. It bothered the officer so much she decided to try to make things right in a personal way.
  • Asked to Watch House, Pal Makes $70K in Renovations: Marine Sgt. Jacinto Bernardo asked a buddy to keep an eye on the fixer-upper he bought in Suisun City, Calif., back in January as he shipped out for his last deployment before retirement. When Bernardo and his wife got back to the US from Japan, they discovered that Jeremy Epperson had done much, much more than watch the house.

  • Runner Competes at 34 Weeks' Pregnant: What do you do when you've been the national champion for the past four years in the 800-meter race ... but you're 34 weeks' pregnant during this year's US Track and Field Championships? Well, if you're Alysia Montano, you go ahead and run, of course.
  • Amy Adams Gives Up Seat for Serviceman: Five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams gave up her first-class seat to a US serviceman on a Delta flight from Detroit to Los Angeles. Adams herself didn't make a big deal of it, but others took notice of the class act.
