The couple who killed two Las Vegas police officers and one civilian before dying themselves earlier this month apparently planned for a much longer rampage. When Jerad and Amanda Miller entered a Walmart after executing the police officers at a pizza restaurant, they had five guns, armor-piercing rounds, and military "MREs"—ready-to-eat food packets; they were also wearing adult diapers, Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie revealed at a press conference yesterday. They were ready to "hunker down" and "kill as many cops as they could," Gillespie said. Upon entering the store, Jerad fired into the air and shouted, "The revolution has started. The cops are coming. Get out," KLAS reports. The one shopper who didn't, Joseph Robert Wilcox, had a concealed weapons permit and was armed; he tried to confront Jerad but was killed by Amanda, who he never saw coming, per police.
The couple then took a baseball bat from the sporting goods section and smashed an ammunition case to get more ammo, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. They were familiar with the store's layout and planned to ambush more officers, Gillespie said, and they nearly succeeded when one officer followed Jerad around a corner, where Amanda surprised him and fired at him. The officer shot Amanda in the shoulder and left, giving his information to the tactical unit that ultimately took Jerad down after a 15-minute gunfight, during which Jerad tried to safeguard Amanda, who was on the ground, by stacking items around her. Jerad briefly spoke to her after he was shot in the chest; she fatally shot herself. (Many more strange details about the Millers: Jerad sometimes dressed as Peter Pan and they both liked to dress as Batman villains.)
