Two Florida narcotics detectives have found themselves on the wrong side of the law after allegedly being caught breaking into Bradenton City Hall in order to ... use the bathroom. The investigation into the Feb. 7 incident was spurred by the city clerk, who handed over surveillance footage to the city's police chief. An internal affairs report states that the video shows the pair "repeatedly ... accessing a closed hallway of City Hall" after "apparently manipulating a door lock." The kicker: Detective Ross Johnson, who is no longer on the force, reportedly explained that they didn't use the bathroom located in their department because it is "nasty."
Johnson described the City Hall bathroom as "out of sight, out of mind," per the report. And, it seems, left wide open for days. City Hall was open "through Monday, February 10, 2014, due to their manipulation of the door lock," notes the report. When asked why they messed with the lock, Johnson reportedly said, "Just so we wouldn't get locked out so we could use the bathroom or use it as a cut-through." The other detective has yet to be publicly named, and faces a pre-disciplinary hearing in June, reports the Bradenton Herald. (More weird crimes stories.)
