Sports / NCAA basketball Xavier Takes 5th Straight Win (Barely) Over St. Louis High-riding Musketeers need last-second tip for 70-68 victory By Katherine Thompson, Newser Staff Posted Feb 8, 2008 4:12 AM CST Copied Saint Louis' Kevin Lisch, left, and Xavier's Jason Love reach for a loose ball during the first half of a basketball game Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, in St. Louis. (AP Photo/Jeff Roberson) (Associated Press) The Xavier Musketeers have been slashing their way to the top of the Atlantic 10 conference, winning 10 of their last 11 games, though more decisively than last night's 70-68 defeat of St. Louis. The Billikens now have five tough conference losses, but remain philosophical about their position: "We'll get there one day," coach Rick Majerus assured the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. When the 13th-ranked Musketeers began to slump after the break, dropping from 56% to 39% shooting, St. Louis turned it up a notch, doubling their own field goal percentage from 27 to 54. Kevin Lisch scored 12 points in the game's final minute to pull the Billikens even, but Derrick Brown tipped it in in the final 0.1 second to secure victory. (More NCAA basketball stories.)
