A columnist in the Los Angeles Times today makes the bold assertion that millennials are poised to be our "greatest generation." And no, Chris Erskine is not a millennial himself. But he's taught them, coached them, and worked beside them, and he can't say enough good things. "They are inherently more adaptive, they are idealistic, they are tolerant of differences," he writes. "They are aspirational in all the right ways."
Erskine deflects the standard knocks: Too coddled as kids? Encouraging treatment "produced a generation of eager and motivated children, not the worst qualities in an achievement-based world." Too needy as adults? Eh, they'll grow out of it. As boomers retire, the professional world will open up far more opportunities for this tech-savvy and ambitious group, and they're going to thrive.
