A group of daredevils suspected of parachuting from 1 World Trade Center into Manhattan last year have admitted that they did it—and it was great. The group turned themselves into police yesterday after investigators tracked them down, reports the New York Times. One of the men says the stunt exposed the need for tighter security. "We just kind of walked in," he says. "It’s supposed to be the most secure building in the world. God forbid it was somebody else getting in there with a real intention to harm New Yorkers."
One of the men was an ironworker with access to the site, but defense lawyers say the group slipped through a hole in a fence—just like a teenager who sneaked his way to the top of America's tallest building earlier this month. One of the men describes the descent from the tower as an "exhilarating" experience. "It’s a fair amount of free fall time," he says. "You really get to enjoy the view of the city and see it from a different perspective." The four suspects, one of whom kept watch while the other three jumped, have been charged with burglary, reckless endangerment, and jumping from a structure, reports the New York Daily News.
