A New Jersey woman has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault after administering a fatal silicone injection. Tamira Mobley, 28, who says she is a beautician, injected silicone into the buttocks of college student Tamara Blaine, 22, in a pay-by-the-hour New York hotel room. The July procedure was the fourth in a year, the New York Times reports. This time, the silicone entered Blaine's bloodstream, an autopsy found, resulting in embolisms and asphyxiation. She had a seizure and died in the hospital.
Blaine was charged yesterday, and a criminal complaint says she injected "numerous other women, over the course of two years," with help from Internet advertising. It's the latest in a string of similar cases that often see industrial silicone—"the stuff you are taking to grease your garage door with," says a plastic surgeon—injected into the buttocks. In another sad note, after a month of searching, Blaine's mother apparently only discovered her daughter's death from the hospital bill, DNAinfo reports. "When I lost her, nobody helped me," says Lola Blaine. (More Tamira Mobley stories.)
