Last night's game might have been mostly boring (no shots for the first seven minutes, then no goals after the first two periods) and relatively tame (a measly six penalties), but the Stars are happy with their 3-2 shootout victory, the Dallas Morning News reports. Captain Brenden Morrow scored in the sixth round to lift his team past Vancouver. In other hockey action:

  • Peter Mueller's hat trick gave Phoenix a 3-0 lead until seven minutes into the third period, when a determined Calgary team came back to tie it and hold on for a 4-3 shootout win.
  • A single mistake cost Carolina the game in a 1-0 loss to Nashville, and to add injury to insult, a slip cost Chad LaRose a broken leg.
