Celebrity / celebrity 5 Celebs You Never Expected to Become Dads The latest: Simon Cowell By Evann Gastaldo, Newser Staff Posted Mar 2, 2014 1:17 PM CST Copied This Aug. 1, 2013 file photo shows Simon Cowell, a judge on the FOX series "The X Factor," during a panel discussion on the show at the FOX 2013 Summer TCA press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif. (Photo by Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP, File) Admit it: When Simon Cowell posted gushing Twitter updates about his new baby, you were kind of shocked. He had, after all, said for years that he didn't want kids. But the 54-year-old is far from the only celebrity father whose kids surprised the world; The Stir rounds up nine more. A sampling: Hugh Grant: After having no kids with Elizabeth Hurley during their 13 years together, it was a big surprise when he had his first child at age 51 after what he called a "fleeting affair." He's since had two more love children. Steve Martin: He had his first child at 68. Enough said. David Letterman: He and partner Regina Lasko were together for 17 years before having a baby; son Henry was 6 years old before Letterman and Lasko married. Warren Beatty: He was known as a huge playboy in the 1960s and 1970s, but Annette Bening somehow got him to settle down in 1991. Their first child was born when Beatty was 55; they have four.
