Why do celebrities flock to the Chateau Marmont? The Hollywood hotel was built in 1926 (and was first an apartment building), and seeing as it's located on a hill in California, it was constructed entirely of steel and concrete. That allows it to withstand earthquakes—but the thick walls also, conveniently enough, protect the inhabitants, meaning their partying secrets aren't revealed, writes Nate Freeman for Gizmodo. The hill also helps to hide the hotel from prying eyes, with small cobblestone walkways allowing celebrities to make a quick, quiet escape from the premises should they need to.
