The New York Times highlights an odd quirk of the city's subway system: Riders can get a late note upon request if the trains make them tardy. Or more precisely, they can get a "Subway Delay Verification" note. And while they're relatively unknown, the city's transportation authority has issued 250,000 of them since the service began in 2010. Impressed with the customer service? The story notes that Japan issues similar notes, but the Japanese versions also include apologies. A more tangible drawback in New York: It can take days for the notes to arrive, so they may not work in a pinch. Click for the full story. (More strange stuff stories.)
