These days, promoting your new album doesn't just mean getting DJs to talk about it on the radio, oh no. The Week rounds up seven albums that were promoted in very weird ways indeed. A sampling:

  • Arcade Fire, Reflektor: The band hired graffiti artists to put the word "Reflektor" on buildings around the world; eventually, the Internet figured out it was the title of the upcoming album.
  • Jay Z, Magna Carta Holy Grail: He gave away the first million copies of the album free, but only to Samsung customers (Samsung paid $5 per copy).

  • Kanye West, Yeezus: He projected the "New Slaves" music video on buildings across the globe; he also projected an album teaser starring ... Scott Disick.
  • Nine Inch Nails, Year Zero: The band created a game set in the alternate-reality dystopian future the album is set in, then hid USB drives containing some of the new songs around the world (and also hid other clues about the album in various places).
