Tony Abbott was voted in as the new prime minister of Australia yesterday, but his big moment was upstaged by a protester who gatecrashed his party and jumped up on stage with the new PM and his family as they posed for photos, Sky News reports. The uninvited guest was anti-coal activist Fregmonto Stokes, 25—though he prefers to go by the name Twiggy Palmcock—who sneaked into the party by fashioning a wristband out of a yellow Starburst wrapper, despite security provided by federal and state police and private guards, the Age reports.
Stokes drank free wine and hobnobbed with Abbott supporters for more than an hour before he was removed. "(Security guards) searched me for weapons but they only found my comb, which I probably should have used because my hair was looking slightly disheveled," says Stokes. Sky News has video of Stokes and Abbott on stage together. (More Tony Abbott stories.)
