Think prostitution should be legalized? Then check out what's happening in Zurich, where officials are set to open a $2.2 million facility so johns can take prostitutes into so-called "sex boxes," the Telegraph reports. The area will include a road where 40 prostitutes will be waiting to negotiate their price without the influence of a pimp. "We want to regulate prostitution because until now it was the law of the jungle," says a Zurich official.
"It was the pimps who decided the prices, for instance," he adds. "We are trying to reach a situation which is better for the prostitutes themselves, for their health and security and also for people who live in Zurich." The "sex boxes"—about the size of garages—will include alarms that prostitutes can ring if they feel in danger. Prostitution is already legal in Switzerland, and is becoming more popular Zurich, as many sex workers have moved there from Eastern Europe in recent years. (More prostitution stories.)
