Whitey Bulger Found Guilty of Racketeering

James "Whitey" Bulger has been found guilty of a raft of racketeering charges that carry a maximum sentence of life in prison. The jury also found that the state had proven Bulger's guilt in 11 of the 19 murders he was accused of, along with several instances of money laundering and extortion, Boston.com reports. The convictions come after 32½ hours of deliberations over five days.

As he was led out of the courtroom, Bulger pointed to his family and gave them a thumbs up, as a woman in the victims' row yelled, "Rat a tat, Whitey," one Boston Globe reporter tweeted. The reporter also notes a pattern in the convictions: the jury seems not to have convicted Bulger in connection with the murders hitman John Martorano has admitted carrying out.
