Older men who jog or walk briskly for 30 minutes several times a week die at half the rate in the same period as contemporaries who are not fit, according to a new study. The study monitored 15,000 veterans, aged 50 to 70, for more than seven years. Researchers concluded fitness extended life regardless of other factors like race or income level, Reuters reports.
"All you need is between two and three hours of brisk walking a week. You can spread that out between four and six days a week," said the director of the Exercise Testing and Research Lab at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington. "The message here is exercise works on anybody." (More fitness level stories.)
