Shining reviews and an online viral campaign drew more older fans than expected—45% were over age 25—as the low-budget monster pic smashed January and MLK holiday debuts. 27 Dresses glammed up second spot with $27 million as The Bucket List tipped from top to third with a weekend total of $18 million.
